"Threaten" that gopher tortoise, please!

Well, this subject is the main reason why I started this blog in the first place:

State commission looking to upgrade tortoise's status to threatened

"...the gopher tortoise is being buried alive by developers who pay for optional Fish and Wildlife 'incidental take' permits to build atop the reptile's habitat rather than relocate the species. The commission wants to upgrade the reptile's status from a species of special concern to threatened."
